A TWO-YEAR ONLINE PROGRAM

Meditation Teacher Training

Reinforce your own learning, teach others, and help create a wiser world. Built upon The Mind Illuminated, delivered by certified TMI teachers.

Culadasa The Mind Illuminated (TMI)

Culadasa’s contribution to our understanding of meditation has been profound. That’s why we’ve built our meditation teacher training around it.

In The Mind Illuminated, Culadasa builds upon the nine-stage model of meditation originally articulated by the ancient Indian sage Asanga.

The result? A clear, practical, 10-stage model for your entire meditative journey. Combining Buddhist teachings with cognitive psychology and neuroscience, TMI is the definitive, modern meditation guide. Join us in this unique meditation teacher training to be part of this lineage.

2023-2024 Teacher Trainee Testimonial

The combination of studying TMI, along with broadening into the context and traditions that informed the book and Culadasa’s approach, gave this course a robustness that made it feel so much more than I was expecting.

”I also think the teachers are an exceptional team, each bringing perspectives that are at once different while also being complementary. That’s a very difficult balance to create, and you all have it.
— Nic Maisano
  • "I appreciate Andrew's almost encyclopedic knowledge, and his precision and adherence to Culadasa's exact words. I don't know what his note taking system is, but I bet it's amazing. Being able to ground our conversations in specific things Culadasa has said - and then expand on those words - gives the training a sense of being true to Culadasa's intentions, while also being open and free to explore the broader terrain of this work. That wouldn't be possible without Andrew's presence, and the way his mind works."

  • "Eric's knowledge and detail about all the various techniques, is exceptional. His ability to pull on sutta's, concepts, frameworks, practices, teachers, traditions at the drop of a hat made this program so much more than I thought it was going to be. I went into it thinking it was going to be a TMI Meditation Teacher Training, and it became a Meditation Teacher Training, with some TMI - which I think is much better."

  • "I think Li-Anne exhibits many of the same things that Eric does, but she adds the ability to tune into the experience of the individual practitioner and identify the specific practice or insight that might be useful for that individual at that precise moment. Her ability to listen in to the thoughts and mind-system of a student, and then to connect it with a practice is profoundly valuable."

Very competent teachers, well structured and paced, a mixture of profound learning and discussion and personal progress. Challenging in many healthy ways.

”A wonderful and supportive global community of friends on the path.

”One of the most rewarding journeys of my life, thoroughly recommended!
— Sebastian Marshall
  • "Andrew is a hugely kind, humble, respectful teacher and a careful listener. His knowledge of TMI is exceptional and his own personal meditation experience profound."

  • "Eric has a seemingly inexhaustible supply of inspiration, humour and warmth. He brings a profound knowledge of other non-dual traditions to the awakening journey. Mentoring with Eric is like shooting rapids, thrilling, sparkling and eventually landing you in profoundly deep still waters."

  • "Li-Anne's profound experiential understand of the Buddhist Path and her background in psychiatry and psychotherapy provide a wonderful safety-net for the course. The steady voice of sanity and refuge."

Anyone can be a meditation teacher, but that doesn’t mean anyone can teach meditation well. What you will learn breathes life into the pages of TMI, but the overall content of this program extends beyond its covers. This is THE complete course to becoming a lineaged meditation teacher. This course helps you to refine your craft to step confidently into this profession.
— Jake Goldman
  • "Andrew has an incredible memory that pairs well with his knowledge. He will often harmonize the transmission of others into something that is easily digestible."

  • "The scope of Eric's presence is palpable and he brings joy to his teachings."

  • "Li-Anne is precise. She can often cut right to the core of an issue or topic to bring you to a better vantage point. Her background in psychiatric services will often have her drop nuggets of wisdom to prepare you to aid students with mild psychological distress."

What You Need to Know

  • The TMI Meditation Teacher-Training is conducted like a graduate-level program of Culadasa’s The Mind Illuminated. This occurs through twice-monthly, 2 hour sessions over Zoom that will be recorded.

We go through one chapter at a time in as much detail as possible, to ensure teacher trainees have a good conceptual understanding and personal experience (or at least a practical flavour) of what is covered in the entire book. Teacher trainees are expected to read, contemplate, practise and ask questions for each chapter we cover.

  • An extensive range of supplementary practices from other Buddhist and spiritual traditions are offered in smaller group mentoring sessions, one year with Eric and one year with Li-Anne. The aim of these mentoring sessions is to help you deepen your practice and awaken to the Dhamma.

Eric’s sessions include 4 months of intensive practices (2 hours per day including 1 hour on the cushion and some of the practices throughout the day less formally), as well as additional readings and group mentoring for the rest of the year (twice-monthly, 2 hours).

Li-Anne’s sessions include group mentoring (twice-monthly, 1.5 hours) as well as regular, individualised check-ins.

  • All the training will be held online as our students (and the teachers) live in different parts of the world. No travel will be required, although we do encourage students who live close to one another to meet up if they can.

There will be opportunities for self-retreats, teaching practice and supporting your fellow teacher-trainees during the two years we spend together.

  • The cost of the two-year program is 5400 USD (Early Bird 4800 USD if paid in full before the end of 2024).

There will also be several charges for incidentals amounting to about 325 USD.

The next TMI meditation teacher training begins in January 2025.

Please note there will be a limit of 24 trainees accepted.
